The Germans in their first half of the first turn made deep inroads in the north of the map, while in the central part they are all huddled together ready to run even further east. Whereas in the south a force made mostly of Romanian units are slowly heading east and imposed some damage on the Russian player. But now, on the Russian part of turn one, some of that has changed.
The Russian on their part of turn one in the north ran, ahistorically, to the east ahead of the Germans. Whereas in the central part, around Brest-Litovsk, they counterattacked with T-34 and KV-1 and KV-2 units. While in the south Russian fast armored units descended on outstretched Romanian Cavalry units and dealt them a handful of fatal blows. The Germans will surely bite back and overrun the Russians in turn 2 but in some areas especially, they’ve been bottled up a bit. Defenders will surely fall, but the Germans will be slowed. Will it be enough to keep the German from his game victory objectives or is it all too little in the face of the German juggernaut known to history as operation Barbarossa?
